Abstract |
We present a 38-year old man with right-sided hypesthesia and paresthesia. He had no traditional risk factor except smoking and recurrent migraine. Transcranial Doppler-(TCD) examination for right-to-left shunt (RLS) revealed the highest degrees of microbubble signals. Transesophageal echocardiography showed 18 mm-sized patent foramen ovale (PFO) and functional RLS. After the PFO closure, the follow-up TCD presented no evidence of RLS and, the migraine was relieved. Patients with cryptogenic stroke and recurrent migraine with PFO could be thought carefully for its closure. |
